I have been blessed and I have been given thanks in so many ways. Jesus told His disciples in the book of Matthew that because they had been given much, they should also give back. As a follower of Christ, how do I give back all that I have been given? In what ways can I express my gratitude? How do I put that into action? And what does it really mean to me?
Well, I was thinking about this idea and what it means to me. If I’m given thanks, it is a gift and I am the recipient. God has blessed me with the life that I live and He also blesses me daily with each moment that I am alive.
But to live thanks is all about giving back. It’s all about being able to appreciate each and every gift that has blessed your life. And there are going to be some downright miserable days. The kind of day in which you wish that you could have a do-over.
But on your final day in this earthly realm, you are not going to remember those days. The moments of the days that you will remember is when his eyes light up as you jokingly tease and kid him, or when your Bible Study student joyfully answers that Jesus rode a possum into Jerusalem during passover week, or when your spouse is in the shower singing praises to the Lord and you are so touched by his words that it brings tears to your eyes.
These are the days that you will remember and it is for those days that we need to show our appreciation. Send your friend a card or an email recounting a fun time that you shared, tuck a little love note into your husband’s lunch, give a phone call to your next door neighbor and let her know that you are thinking about her. In each moment of our lives, we need to be a blessing to others.
